Why I Stopped Waiting to "Feel It" During Worship

Updated: Jul 20

Worship is a response to who God is, not how I feel today. If I waited to worship until I felt worthy or ready, I’d never do it. There are days I’m anxious, days I’m angry, days I just don’t sad. But worship isn’t about me. It’s not about being in the mood, it’s about choosing Him, even when I’m not sure where I stand. Too often, we let our emotions control us.

I’ve said it myself:

“I just don’t feel like worshipping today.”

“I don’t feel like I have it in me, I don’t feel worthy.”

And in those moments, I stayed silent. I chose not to worship. I sat there, waiting to “feel it.” But all that did was disconnect me further from God’s presence.

Because worship is a response to who God is. Not to whether my day is going great.

Not to whether I “feel spiritual.” We worship because He is worthy, because He is holy, because He is still God. And He deserves praise regardless of my emotional state.

There will be times when we’re broken, heartbroken, in pain, or straight up numb. But we have to decide… Will I let my emotions silence my worship just because I don’t “feel it”?

Sometimes, the most powerful worship is when you don’t feel a thing yet you lift your hands anyway. That’s called a sacrifice of praise. It costs something. And that’s what makes it meaningful. When it come from the innermost part of yourself.

We don’t worship because we feel close to God. We worship to become close to Him again. It’s how we realign even when we’re tired or numb.
